Committed to helping you
Robert J. Noone, Ph.D. has been a practicing psychotherapist for more than 40 years, seeing individuals, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of emotional and relationship problems. His approach to therapy is based on the family systems theory developed by Murray Bowen, M.D. This approach provides a framework for individuals interested in optimizing not only their own functioning, but that of their important relationship systems as well (marriage, family, work).

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Noone is founding faculty of the Center for Family Consultation based in Evanston, Illinois. The Center was founded in 1979 for the purpose of contributing to the learning, teaching, and research of the family systems theory developed at the National Institute of Mental Health and Georgetown University by Dr. Murray Bowen, a pioneer in the field of family therapy. The Center’s faculty conducts a variety of seminars, conferences, and a two-year postgraduate training program in Bowen theory and psychotherapy.

Dr. Noone is also on the faculty of the Georgetown Family Center in Washington, D.C. and editor of the journal, Family Systems. Previously he was the executive director of the Family Service Center (FSC) of Wilmette, Glenview, Northbrook, and Kenilworth, an outpatient clinic, for 28 years. Prior to his position at FSC, he was the director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program at the Family Service and Mental Health Center of Oak Park/River Forest.

Dr. Noone is a nationally recognized presenter on Bowen theory and psychotherapy and is the author of numerous published articles on the subject. He is editor and author, along with Dr. Daniel Papero, of the book, The Family Emotional System (2015). He was the recipient of the Polly Caskie Research Award presented by the Georgetown Family Center for research related to the impact of stress and the family on the health of children. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois Chicago and did his postgraduate training at the Georgetown University Family Center in Washington, D.C. His research interests have included: stress reactivity, the family emotional system, and the interplay between genes and the family during development and over the generations.

Difficulties such as depression, marital conflict, anxiety, or alcoholism do not affect the individual only -- they affect those around you too.  But while these problems do not exist within the individual alone, solutions usually begin with an individual who is motivated to make a difference for self or for others."
